Our History

1967 - 1972

  • KARE started
  • St. Anne's Special School opened
  • Care unit established for pre-school children

1973 - 1977

  • St. Mark's Special School opened
  • Administration Office opened in Moorefield
  • Adult Day Care Centre opened in Kildare

1978 - 1982

  • Sheltered Workshop opened in Kildare
  • Residential House opened in Athy
  • Sheltered Workshop relocated to Newbridge

1983 - 1992

  • Community based group homes opened in Naas and Kildare
  • Vocational Training Centre opened in Newbridge
  • Baltinglass Rural Industries transferred to KARE
  • Sheltered Workshop closed and Supported Employment started
  • In Home Support started for families of young children
  • Special Pre-School opened in Newbridge
  • Child Development and Education Centre opened

1993 - 1997

  • Respite house opened in Newbridge
  • Local Services established in Athy, Baltinglass, Blessington, Edenderry, Kilcullen, Kildare, Naas and Newbridge

1998 - 2002

  • Clinical Supports expanded and moved to Kilcullen
  • Local Services opened in Clane and Edenderry
  • Supported Living started
  • Local Services opened in Tinahely
  • Community based group homes opened in Athy, Baltinglass and Newbridge
  • Pre-School initiative commenced to support children in their local pre-school

2003 - 2007

  • Children under 6 years and their families supported through the HSE Early Years Support Partnership
  • Partnership formed with Scoil na Naomh Uilig Primary School in Newbridge
