KARE provides services to preschool children who present with an intellectual disability. This service currently provides three alternative programmes:

  • A centre based pre-school for children from 3 - 5 years of age
  • A support service to children attending their local pre-school groups
  • A support service to children and their parents, in the child's home (currently also offered to children under 3)

Children enrolled in the service may be involved in any one or more of the three alternative programmes.

Children are referred by the Area Medical Officer on behalf of the Early Services Team.

Services provided are based on

  • Individual assessment of need
  • The implementation and 6 monthly review of a written Individual Education Plan that is developed in conjunction with Parents

KARE is a partner in the "Pre-School Initiative" project, funded by the H.S.E. This project supports children in their local pre-school. The support staff are employed by KARE. The clinical support is provided by the Early Services Team.
