Smart Technology

Help us raise €100,000 to equip the people we support with the tools and technology to live with greater independence and ease.

Some of the daily challenges faced by the people we support can be solved by having the right tools. Assistive technology, like customised communication apps or smart home devices, opens new opportunities for learning, working and living independently.

Your support will help provide this life-changing technology, tailored to each person’s needs, so they can make their own choices and live life on their terms.

How smart tech enhances lives

Meet Chris, who was supported by Kare's Assistive Technology Specialist to incorporate an automatic medication dispenser into his daily routine.

'The valve in my aorta was replaced about 10 years ago. I have to take Warfarin twice a day to thin the blood for my heart.

'I had a pill tray. Sometimes I would forget to take them or drop the tablets on the floor where I could not find them. It messed up my blood levels.

'The dispenser beeps and the light goes off. You tip it up and the tablets go in the bowl. Then I take them. Staff put in a week’s worth of tablets at a time. We put red tape on it so I can see where the door for the tablets is.

'It’s a great machine, a great idea. It’s simple to use and helps me be more independent. It didn’t take long to get used to using it. It took staff longer than me! I never forget tablets now. You can’t miss the alarm on it. It’s a lot easier than before. My blood levels have been good since using it. I’d miss it if it was gone now.'

How you can help

Chris’s story is just one example of what’s possible when the right tools are matched with the right support. With your help, we can bring these benefits to many more people by scaling up small, successful projects into everyday solutions across our services.

Your support for our Smart Technology fund will allow us to make greater investment in this area, and help to ensure that everyone who can benefit from assistive technology has access to it.
