Sustainable Transport

Help us raise €550,000 to provide accessible transport for the people we support, empowering them to live independently and stay connected.

Transport is more than just getting from place to place, it’s a vital connection to the world around us.

Our fleet of buses and cars supports individuals to attend appointments, take part in social activities and maintain their independence. However, our aging fleet of 62 buses and cars, many over a decade old with more than 250,000 kilometres, is increasingly expensive to maintain, making it harder to meet the needs of the people we support.

Accessible transport changes lives

Breda, Joe, Ann and Anthony from one of our residential services share what access to reliable transport means to them.

'I can go to appointments, go for overnight stays and join fun activities. Before, I felt stuck, but now I can ask staff  go out when I need to and they will book the car for me. It makes my life so much better.' – Joe Ryan

'The bookable car helps me go places I couldn’t before. I can visit my friends and sister, go shopping, see the doctor and attend meetings all over the country. It makes me happy because I don’t feel stuck at home anymore.' – Breda Cross

'I can visit my family, go to the cinema, to the theatre in Dublin and go for overnight breaks. It gives me a sense of freedom. It was hard to get to places before but now I can ask staff anytime to book the bus for my adventures. I feel happier because I can do the things I want and be more independent.' – Anthony Byrne

'The bookable bus helps me go to places like shopping centres, my courses, the ladies’ shed, and do lots of different activities and getaways. It’s great to have when I am off work to enjoy myself. I like that the bus is wheelchair accessible because I have ability difficulties. The bus can park in wheelchair spaces, so I can get closer to get where I need to go, and that makes life easier for me.' – Ann Nolan

What we need

We need to replace seven vehicles as a priority.

  • Five Eight-Seater Buses (€85,000 each): Larger buses, crucial for daily activities across our services.

  • Two Bookable Buses (€48,000 each): These smaller vehicles give individuals the flexibility to attend appointments and personal activities.

These vehicles are specially designed to meet the unique needs of the individuals we support. Without reliable transport, many of our service users will have difficulty accessing essential services, social connections and opportunities to lead full and independent lives.
