Introducing Kare's Interim CEO, Darren Smullen

We are pleased to announce that Darren Smullen has been appointed as Interim CEO of Kare. Darren takes over the role from Deirdre Murphy who stepped down as CEO at the end of May.

Darren is a Chartered Accountant with 20 years’ experience working in finance, compliance and audit across many sectors. Having been at Kare since 2018 and on the Senior Management Team since 2022, Darren brings a strong understanding of Kare's operations as well as a deep commitment to our vision and values. Previously Kare's Finance Manager, Darren will continue to oversee the organisation's finances during this period. 

Speaking about his appointment, Darren said: "I’m honoured to step into the role of CEO and ​support the important work that Kare does every day to promote inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities. My focus is to guide Kare through this transition period and ensure we continue to provide the best possible services to the people we support." 

Recruitment for the permanent CEO position is under way, overseen by Kare's Board of Directors, and more information will be shared in due course.
