We are delighted to launch a new online dating safety video, developed by Kare service users to help people stay safe when connecting with others online.

As more relationships and friendships begin online, people with disabilities are using dating apps in the same way as everyone else. The video aims to support that independence with accessible information that is relevant to all. Drawn from the group's own experiences and ideas, it offers clear, practical guidance for anyone using dating apps, social media or friendship platforms, taking a real and honest look at some of the risks that can arise online and highlighting simple steps that can help anyone protect themselves.

The video was launched at our recent Beyond Barriers conference. At the launch, the group behind the video explained why they wanted to make it:

“Everyone deserves to love and be loved. When you're looking for the one, you should be focused on butterflies and flirty texts, not worrying about if someone is trying to scam you. This guide was developed to empower people with the tools, tips and confidence they need to stay safe while building healthy, respectful relationships.

"Using clear language, relatable examples and practical advice, our goal is to promote independence, dignity and self confidence when meeting others online, because everyone deserves that spark, that excitement, those first day butterflies... but also to feel safe, respected and truly connected.”

The project was created with support from Kare's Outreach team, produced in collaboration with communications consultant and filmmaker Sam Whelan-Curtin, and developed through funding from Rethink Ireland. It brings together lived experience, creativity and professional production to create a resource that is both engaging and practical.
