Graduates, staff, friends and family gathered at Keadeen Hotel in Newbridge on 25 September to celebrate the completion of Kare’s Local Training Initiative (LTI). Eleven learners completed the year-long programme, receiving their QQI Level 5 Major Award in Intellectual Disability Practice.
The LTI, delivered in partnership with KWETB, provides knowledge, skills and hands-on experience for those pursuing careers in intellectual disability services. Over its 26 years, the programme has made a lasting impact, with many past participants still working with Kare today.
This year’s group of sixteen learners began their journey in October 2024. Along the way, they completed sector-specific training, job-seeking workshops and placements in local services. Many have since progressed into employment or further education, with some already securing permanent jobs within Kare or other organisations.
At the ceremony, Louise Mahon, Kare’s Head of Operations, presented certificates and praised the group’s commitment and resilience. Families, staff mentors and programme tutors joined the celebration, which included refreshments and time to reflect on the learners’ achievements.
The event highlighted not only the hard work of the graduates but also the value of ongoing training and development in supporting people with intellectual disabilities.
