Working together for a tidier town

Over the summer, we teamed up with Newbridge Tidy Towns Association to create an inclusive and welcoming project where everyone could learn from each other.

Five individuals from Kare met with Tidy Towns volunteers every Monday for six weeks to help tidy the skate park and water tower areas. Together, they picked up litter, cared for planters and worked on new skills like safely deadheading flowers and working carefully near roads and crossings.

This project had benefits for all involved:

  • Kare service users gained confidence and skills to join the wider Tidy Towns group.

  • Tidy Towns volunteers learned more about inclusive communication and how to support people with intellectual disabilities in community projects.

Huge thanks to Newbridge Tidy Towns for getting involved – the collaboration was a great success and everyone really enjoyed it.

We’d love to see more TidyTowns Ireland and Kare groups across Kildare, West Wicklow and East Offaly come together in the same way. If you're interested, get in touch with annemarie.potter@kare.ie.
